My website, www.mathius-toerau.art, is not a showcase.
I do not merely display paintings, a biography and a few archives there. I bring together an entire life: my paintings, my artistic movements, my autobiography, my novel, my manifestos, my voice, my documents and my various creations, all in French, English and reo Tahiti.
Its singularity lies above all in its new structure. A museum preserves. A gallery exhibits. A historian interprets.
But I alone know how to organize, from within, the links between my life, my thought and my work, including in the face of those who, over time, have disputed or ignored my talent.
Here, my website itself becomes a creation: a digital form conceived to transmit my existence, and not simply to preserve its illusory traces, deprived of the thought that connects them.
Among the so-called artists’ websites that I have been able to compare thus far, I have found none, built by the artist himself, that brings together within a single structure work, life, thought, voice, literature, archives and three languages.
Until proven otherwise, my approach is unique: to make my own life a revolutionary and transmissible digital work, in order to break the silence surrounding my talent.
By creating my website, I have definitively disarmed my detractors.
